With two overdubbed guitars and some solo pieces, Paul's new instrumental CD 'Warmth of the Night' embodies a wonderful ambience. The clarity of this recording makes it an outstanding guitar 'chillout' CD.

"I've always enjoyed playing my Spanish-made guitar and thought it would be great to record 14 of my own songs on this instrument. The whole project has a relaxing feel with a Spanish flavour, or overtone, but it isn't flameco.

"'Warmth of the Night' seemed like an appropriate title as all the recording sessions were completed during particularly hot weather. I was listening to the recording takes at night and I'd have all the windows wide open with a trace of a breeze coming through, " says Paul.

"Some of the new pieces are ones I've composed especially for the guitar and some are instrumental versions of some of my original songs, which are normally heard with lyrics."

"My influences on this recording are classical, Spanish, light jazz, folk, rock and pop. 'Warmth of the Night' is relaxing music for those balmy summer nights or would also be great listening in winter by a log fire," says Paul.

"Over the years I've enjoyed listening to some of the great names playing classical and pop/
rock acoustic guitar such as John Williams, Earl Klugh, Eric Clapton, Tommy Emmanuel, Mark Knopfler, Mark Antione, Jose Feliciano, etc. But most often the big names record with backing bands or orchestras.

"To me there is nothing more intimate than the sound of duo and solo guitars with nothing else in the background. This was a little trickier than I thought. No backing loops and no guide 'clicks' was the rule for this CD! A natural, 'human' feel was the objective."

"You know when you walk into a cafe or hotel and someone is playing their guitar, or just one piano, and the simplicity and clarity of it really hits you. I had that sound, or atmosphere, in mind while rehearsing and recording. I kept trying until I captured a solo/duo guitar recording I thought had an infectious little sparkle. Hopefully I've created a special ambience all the way through this recording from the beginning to the end," says Paul.

"Quite often people ask me what songs are about, or where the inspiration to create them comes from. So I thought I'd briefly articulate here what moods, ideas, feelings, etc., come to mind behind the tunes on 'Warmth of the Night.'
